The first frames of “Living Together” give us a glimpse of the life which is familiar to millions Vietnamese in the city: social housing. Look more closely, the temporary shabbiness of the possessions seems to hide something wrong. In front of the camera, the diverse angles of this particular living arrangement are in turn revealed, through it, the tragedy of marginalized individuals is gradually brought to life.
Choosing the half objective documentary, half social realism style, the director of Living Together refrains from intervening the film content with commentary but let characters narrate themselves and share their feeling through some suggestive questions. The camera records directly to expose reality. A heavy and difficult social subject but it is also one of the hot issues in contemporary society, Living Together is the film which leaves a strong impression in the serial documentary films of DocLab.
