From 8 to March 10, 1982, Meeting Summary of Ethnographic Film held first in Paris. Since then, over 1300 films from around the world have been shown to reflect the cultural revolution of the social community and the richness of our diversity. As anthropologist and filmmaker Jean Rouch founder, this international event, located between the boundaries of culture and science, organized by the Anthropology Film Commission.
Thirty years of cinema was to see the world differently, explore, understand and reflect the future, beyond the realistic appearance of calm, away from the approach path of the external factors hybrid, and finally listen to the voice of everyone. During the past 30 years, ethnographic film undergoing unprecedented development, associated with the media revolution of filmmaking, production, and distribution. The mission of this festival is to introduce the trends in each of the most original, the most appropriate.
The films are necessary but not always sufficient, we also take the time to open the debate and promote discussion. In 30 years, the festival has brought an opportunity for interaction between filmmakers, academics, manufacturers, broadcasters, the festival organizers and audience ethnography.
Jean Rouch’s film festival highlights. In 2011, we will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the festival, with the organization of special events, meetings and interested audience spellbound, in different places such as Paris, the region in France and the world. These events will provide an opportunity to reach new audiences and continue spreading the ethnographic documentary.
