The screening includes Un Chien Andalou/An Andalusian Dog by Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí. Un Chien Andalou is a sixteen minute silent surrealist short film produced in France by the Spanish director Luis Buñuel and artist Salvador Dalí. It was Dali’s first film and was initially released in 1929 to a limited showing in Paris, but became popular and ran for eight months. It is one of the best-known surrealist films of the avant-garde movement of the 1920s.
And the experimental film by American female filmmaker Maya Deren, Meshes of the afternoon. The film’s narrative is circular, and repeats a number of psychologically symbolic images, including a flower on a long driveway, a key falling, a door unlocked, a knife in a loaf of bread, a mysterious Grim Reaper, etc.
